Shahla Azizi

Founder, board member, and President of the Afghan-American Women’s Association

Mrs. Shahla Azizi was inspired to launch A-AWA as a result of her steadfast involvement in other Organization, where she witnessed a need to provide additional support for the special challenges faced by all Afghan people. After careful planning and collaboration with talented, similarly impassioned people, the first public appearance for the organization occurred on July 12th 2009. Shahla has contributed substantial growth to the organization by networking, developing opportunities, creating public awareness, and management of the foundation’s members. She serves as a liaison between Afghan women facing challenges, and the resources A-AWA can make available to provide support and assistance.

Shahla left Afghanistan and arrived in Montreal in 1983. After 11years of challenging life and learning languages, In 1994 she left Montreal, taking residence in Virginia. She has lived and worked in Virginia since then, and has dedicated her passion to helping others by bringing to life the Afghan American Women’s Association.

Shahla works for the Department of Defense and she holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Business Management and is fluent in English, Dari/Persian and French.
