The Afghan-American Women’s Association (A-AWA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Afghan-American women and families through education, advocacy, and community engagement. Since its founding in 2009, A-AWA has worked to address the unique needs of Afghan refugees and immigrants, offering support in areas such as resettlement, cultural integration, and professional development. Through initiatives like the Life and Cope Program and partnerships with local organizations, A-AWA fosters a sense of community, dignity, and resilience. Our mission is to help Afghan families thrive as productive members of society while preserving their rich cultural heritage.
The mission of AAWA is to facilitate community services, integration support and cultural programs for Afghan women and displaced families.
Our vision is to build permanent structures for women and displaced families within the Afghan community, as we help them resettle, integrate, and become productive members of society.
The Life and Cope program supports Afghan women in building self-esteem and learning professional coping strategies, with guidance from psychologists and life coaches. It has grown with the influx of refugees, and now includes childcare provided by A-AWA’s youth group, ensuring young mothers can attend.
A-AWA GAK is the youth group of A-AWA, focused on expanding the organization’s social media presence and leading projects that support Afghan youth. Their initiatives include connecting youth in the U.S. with peers in Afghanistan through the Pen Pal Project, fostering cultural exchange and understanding.
