Resettlement Services to Refugees and Newcomer Families (USA)

Virginia, USA

One of the main goals for A-AWA’s resettlement services is to help newly arrived families with their job search efforts. This help includes resume writing, networking, interview skills, social norms, key employment policies and expectations, etc.

In 2022, A-AWA was able to create three resettlement teams serving Afghan newcomers through our various funded programs as well as volunteers. The Surge team was made possible through partnership with LIRS- LSS, as part of a group of Afghan based agencies with Muslim Association of Virginia (MAV) serving as the fiscal sponsor.

A-AWA was accepted as the first Afghan-American agency to be part of the Afghan Placement Assistance program funded by the State Department. Through a partnership with the Islamic Relief USA, A-AWA settled new families directly during their initial 90 days in the country. This connection obviously doesn’t end after three months. A-AWA still works with these families with the help of volunteers. A-AWA’s “Choose Love” team was there on the first day and still continues when other funds have dried up slowly.

Would you like to learn more about volunteering and to become part of A-AWA’s team?. A-AWA’s team of lead volunteers will work alongside and serve as role models for the new team members. Contact us at info@a-awa.org with how you’d like to help!
