Afghanistan Projects

Afghanistan Projects

At A-AWA, we are committed to empowering women and their families in Afghanistan through a variety of income-generating projects and initiatives in several parts of the country. We have partnerships with several diaspora groups (such as Daughters of Rabis Balkhi, and Lycée Malalai Students Group) that support girls’ schools and women-led organizations focused on providing education, mental health services, small business opportunities, and vocational training to women and girls in Afghanistan.

A-AWA’s current partners on the ground in Afghanistan are The Afghan Women Network (AWN), The Afghan Women Educational Center (AWEC), Afghan Women Skills Development Center (AWSDC), Feminine Solidarity for Justice Organization (FSJO), Acshiana Center Kabul/Washington DC, etc.

Since 2020, A-AWA has been able to raise more than $300,000 in small donations to run projects inside Afghanistan and support women-led grassroots organizations and women’s education, health, and businesses. These efforts by members of A-AWA have been life-changing for many especially families with sick and disabled, widows with no source of income, and children working on the streets. As part of this effort, A-AWA has funded several successful mental health projects with ground partner, FSJO, to provide direct psychiatric and therapy services along with financial assistance to the most vulnerable participants who in many cases have been suicidal.

At A-AWA, we believe that investing in women is the key to creating a more stable and prosperous future for Afghanistan. By providing education, training, and income-generating projects,  as well as access to resources and networks available, we are helping to create a more empowered and resilient community of women in Afghanistan in the wake of systematic buriers created for Afghan women and girls to limit their rights to education, work, health, and justice.

Advocacy in Action:

Since 2020, A-AWA has advocated for peace and perseverance of human rights/women rights in Afghanistan through several media campaigns, and petitions, reaching out to the US Congress, UN, EU, NATO, and US Government and participating in efforts to raise the voice of Afghan women. Further, A-AWA has facilitated many fundraising campaigns for targeted educators/Kabul University Professors, civil society activists, artists, and journalists facing imprisonment or threats in recent years with quick and safe delivery that are not reported on social media due to security reasons.
